Coxswain and Skippers Ticket training should be done in a boat, not a classroom. We let you use your own boat that you are familiar with, at your own location, or one of ours at one of our many locations.

Captain Michael Beanland opened up this Nationally Registered Training Organisation with one aim;
“To give Coxswains and Skippers the most flexible training options in Australia, to have trainers operating 7 days a week, to have online and correspondence theory courses that let people study at home or at work at their own speed with videos and easy ways to study that are not just books”. Our trainers regularly go to Coxswain students boats all around Australia. No one can beat us. We will also match prices of the shonky guys who cut corners and give you less training than us, we will beat anyone with our flexible options. Try us, we make boat training what it should be.

– Nationally Accredited under AMSA
– In the top 5% of RTO’s and has passed EVERY single audit with an absolute perfect score.
– NOT operated under some shonky 3rd party rubber stamp with another RTO, like many other Coxswain and Skippers trainers are. We are legally accredited on our own merit and have held our accreditation since 2007 with a perfect record.
– the 1st boat school in Australia authorised to do the AMSA Mandated Practical Assessment and issue Interim Certificates to Coxswain students. 

We can do everything, from start to finish. Seriously most of the other training organisations do not and cannot do it ALL. Most don’t even know how to do everything. They take your $ and let you struggle to deal with the process and AMSA etc.
We are focussed on YOU and your needs and will work with you and assist you to deal with the forms and paperwork, the SeaTime, Final Assessment, etc. We even do the final AMSA compilation digitally, so no photocopying, no post office, no envelopes and standing in queues, it is all done digitally and sent by us to AMSA on the spot. We can even take your ‘passport style’ photo on your work site to add to your Coxswain Card and while we are with you we can give you an Interim Coxswain Certificate on the spot, so you can start work as a Coxswain immediately. No need for you to go to AMSA, no need to go to the Post Office – we can do it ALL for you on the day you finish everything.

There is a reason we have over 80 of Australia’s largest companies sending their Coxswains to us, and thats because we make it easy for the HR staff, we make it easy for the students with our course style, and we make it GREAT for bosses as they know that when their workers finish our courses, they don’t just get a piece of paper, the Coxswains KNOW their stuff.

Mike is without a doubt the most perfectly suited and widely experienced qualified Maritime trainer assessor with his Professional Commercial Skipper qualifications and vast list of experience/s. Mike is a professional Master skipper who has actually operated vessels in a professional commercial capacity in almost every conceivable marine industry sector, including marine tourism, sports, offshore exploration, and owned and run marine commercial enterprises both “down South”, “up North” and Internationally over 20 years. He is a professional technical writer having written innumerable magazine articles for both the marine boating industry as well as the offshore oil and gas industry. Not only has he operated the boats, he has built boats, managed a commercial boat building factory of hi tech vessels and built his own offshore charter vessel. He has skippered almost every type of boat and propulsion system imaginable, through all sorts of circumstances, survived 3 cyclones offshore, including sailing his own Catamaran through the eye of one, crossed many oceans and done solo sailing as well as many international crewed voyages. Most ‘other’ assessors have only the minimum qualification to be a trainer, Michael has the maximum.

Captain Beanland has his Masters 5 as well as Marine Engineer Driver 3 qualifications and has many international equivalent qualifications including superyacht yacht master offshore. When younger he was a registered Commercial Waterski Instructor and Parasail and Hovercraft Operator. Sailing internationally, racing yachts internationally, delivering and skippering boats nationally and internationally as well as the ocean crossings, commercial and International boating experience will all assist and enable him to adjust his style to suit your needs.

For a short time he managed WA’s largest Pearl Farm (& trained it’s skippers), and for a longer time owned and operated Sailsun International, Dive and Eco charter tours through Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore and many other places. He skippered and supervised vessel building and it’s operations for a stock market listed exploration company offshore (looking for diamonds off the North Coast of WA) etc etc…..

Very few assessors in WA have the ‘latest’ Certificate 4 in Training and Assessment (Mike has it and even used to teach it). If you can find another assessor who has done more miles, has more qualifications and anywhere near the same experience, let us know. We would like to hire her (or him). We only hire the best.

*Did you know that a “Captain” is not necessarily a Master 1. Captain is a courtesy name that some Master 1’s call each other (and they sometimes want others to call them Captain also) but it is not a real rank they hold. A real Captain is a title that is earned, not by sitting on a big ship and letting others drive it.

Perth Boat School has trainers that are Master 1 unlimited, all the way down to Coxswains who train our recreational people. And we have many Captains.
